A new malware family, that has been named “POSeidon” has been recently uncovered. These malware programs attack point-of-sale (POS) terminals by infecting them. The aim is clear: to steal your credit card details by using sophisticated mechanisms specially conceived for this purpose. Your credit card details will then be sent to remote exfiltration servers and will in turn feed the black market. This new malware is highly profitable for hackers – thanks to this well-established black market, hackers are able to sell off your credit card details in no time at all. POSeidon therefore represents a threat that is rapidly gaining momentum, as the financial payback for hackers is extremely high.

Stormshield Endpoint Security proactively blocks this new malware family. Point-of-sale terminals equipped with Stormshield Endpoint Security are protected from this new type of threat by default and there is no requirement for an upgrade. The Stormshield Network Security solution also provides an additional layer of security against the POSeidon scourge by detecting and preventing communication between the terminal and the command and control (C&C) server. Given that the Stormshield solution identifies compromised terminals within your network this renders the malware completely powerless.
